The Camphor Tree, or Camphor Laurel, is native to Taiwan, southern Japan, and southeast China and Indochina. It is cultivated for a substance also known as camphor, in a solid, waxy form. It can be used medicinally and was once used as an ingredient in a smokeless gunpowder. It is obtained from the wood and bark of the trees as they are chipped and steamed, which caused the camphor to become crystallized and then harvested.
